So, the results aren't even being counted yet and the right is already claiming there is a "stop the steal" type thing happening in CA. Is something we are going to see across the country with midterm elections? Will every state be embroiled in rightwing attempts to demand appointment of their party? Can US state decorum survive that?

@polymerwitch

yup. yup. lol, decorum is for dems.

@goldcarrot well yeah, I 100% agree decorum is for dems, but that's pretty much the only thing that's been preventing the facade of democracy into being turned into a straightup dictatorship. I think it's important to watch, because I expect the dems to mostly roll over and do nothing if they can't fall back on demanding people respect decorum.

i’ll rephrase: nope, decorum will die, it’s an unstable strategy for maintaining public order and control (like prisoners dilemma, but for those in power). the ruling class is fractured and unable to agree on how to restore its flagging legitimacy. dems are sticking to failed respectability, republicans are blasting forward with tried-and-true brute force.

personally, i hope this democratic facade crumbles, but a dictatorship is not the inevitable outcome.

@polymerwitch

and ya, elected dems won’t do shit if decorum fails, because (with some racialized/gendered exceptions) they won’t be suffering under a dictatorship — shit, some of them might even get a seat at the table! fuck em.

one can hope some portion of the base of the commoner dems wake up and smell the roses of revolt, but as history has shown, there’s no use waiting…
